It
is no wonder that Long Island has the second highest missing child rate in
New York State, with an estimated 3,500 youth who run away or are homeless
in Nassau County each year. Youth run away from home for many different reasons,
but mainly due to life crises that involve abuse and maltreatment. These issues
are difficult for youth and families to talk about, but breaking the silence
is the first step toward a safe alternative.
The
Runaway Hotline is answered by our highly trained counselors and can provide
crisis counseling and emergency housing assistance to Long Island's runaway,
homeless, abused and maltreated youth and their families.
