If
you have gotten this far, you are already showing interest in volunteering
or setting up an internship with
Long
Island Crisis Center.
Volunteering:
Long Island Crisis Center is a great place to volunteer because our volunteers
are the ones who deliver the service to our clients. And, with a small administrative
staff, and over 150 volunteers, there are always many opportunities available.
All you need to start is the want to help and just a little extra time to contribute! You do not need any previous experience. The Center provides a free, comprehensive training program to all volunteers.
To volunteer with Long Island Crisis Center, you must be at least 16 years old, and as a high school student, you only need to contribute 3 hours a week. We ask (non-high school) volunteers to contribute 6 hours a week – being 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, we are very flexible with our volunteers’ schedules. However, due to the amount of training involved, volunteers at any level must commit to at least a 6 month time committment.
Youth Volunteers are high school students who assist with publicizing the agency, distributing literature and helping at tabling events (health fairs, etc.). There is a minimum age requirement of 16, and a minimum commitment of 6 months, 3 hours per week. Please click here for more information on the Youth Volunteer Plan/Requirements and Youth Volunteer Contract.
The great news is that you can start right away. Literally! Just call Long Island Crisis Center’s business line and tell us that you are interested in volunteering, and we’ll set you up with an interview. Training takes place every month, so if you missed last month’s training, there’s no excuse not to start now. Call (516) 826-0244, today.
Some volunteer opportunities that are available include:
Help others, and learn great skills for life!
Internship
Opportunities:
Due to the length of our training, we cannot
accomodate summer internships.
If you are a college student and looking to intern with Long Island Crisis
Center for college credit, you’ve come to the right place! Our internships
and field placements are exciting ways to get the training you need and earn
college credit without being stuck in the classroom. We are able to tailor
the internship to better suit your needs and ours.
Long Island Crisis Center offers a limited number of field placements and internships. Internships and field placements are usually worth 3 credits, but may differ depending on your major and school.
You will find that you will continue to use the skills and knowledge learned at Long Island Crisis Center in every phase of your personal and professional life.
