A Project of Long Island Crisis Center
This workshop for secondary school students and other types of youth groups introduces the concepts of homophobia, homosexuality and bisexuality in order to challenge myths and stereotypes and raise awareness of the impact of homophobia on everyone. Students will learn about the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people and how they can combat homophobia in their own school and/or community.

Understanding Homophobia is typically geared toward a 40-minute classroom period and an audience of 20-30 students. The curriculum can be adapted for lengthier periods, multiple classes, and/or smaller or larger audiences in some instances. Youth speakers from Pride for Youth’s peer educator group may also be available to share their perspectives.
