Development Manager

Full-Time | 40 hours per week | Exempt I Hybrid

Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000  Depending on Experience
Reports to: Executive Director

 

Position Overview

The Development Manager supports the organization’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts to advance the mission and ensure long-term sustainability. Working closely with the Executive Director, board members, and program staff, the Development Manager coordinates individual giving, foundation and corporate fundraising, donor communications, and special events.

This position plays a key role in implementing the organization’s annual fundraising plan and maintaining strong relationships with donors, partners, and community stakeholders. The Development Manager will help elevate the organization’s visibility and support for programs that serve and advocate for Mental Health and the LGBTQ+ community across Long Island.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Individual Giving and Donor Stewardship

  • Manage and maintain the organization’s donor database, ensuring accurate records of contributions and donor interactions

  • Support cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors, including drafting donor communications and acknowledgements

  • Assist in managing donor pipelines and identifying prospective supporters

  • Coordinate donor recognition and stewardship activities

  • Support the Executive Director and PFY Director in cultivating major donor relationships

 

Foundation and Corporate Giving

  • Research and identify potential foundation and corporate funding opportunities

  • Prepare and submit grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports

  • Assist with government grant proposals and reporting as needed

  • Track grant deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements

  • Maintain relationships with foundation and corporate partners

 

Communications and Digital Fundraising

  • Draft fundraising communications including solicitation letters, donor appeals, and stewardship correspondence

  • Assist in the creation of fundraising and marketing materials

  • Support the development of digital fundraising campaigns, including email and social media initiatives

  • Collaborate with staff to maintain website content related to online giving and fundraising initiatives

  • Track engagement metrics to inform outreach strategies

Events and Community Engagement

  • Coordinate logistical planning for the organization’s annual fundraising events

  • Assist in securing sponsors, donors, and participants to meet event fundraising goals

  • Manage event communications and donor outreach

  • Support relationships with community organizations, partners, and supporters

 

Administration and Reporting

  • Track fundraising progress and assist with development reporting for senior leadership and the Board of Directors

  • Assist with the development portion of the annual organizational budget

  • Support strategic discussions related to fundraising growth and sustainability

  • Work with volunteers and board members involved in fundraising efforts

  • Prepare development updates for board meetings and committee meetings

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, communications, public administration, or a related field

  • 3–5 years of experience in nonprofit development or fundraising

  • Experience with grant writing and foundation research

  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills

  • Experience managing donor databases and fundraising platforms (experience with Network for Good preferred)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and digital communication tools

  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with donors, community partners, and board members

  • Cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ communities

  • Commitment to the organization’s mission and values

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting fundraising events and campaigns

  • Experience with digital fundraising and social media engagement

  • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising practices and donor stewardship strategies

  • Experience working with or advocating for LGBTQ+ communities
