New Portal Training Available for Additional Training Hours

Hi everyone, and welcome to the first post on our 988 Blog!!! This is a bit of a trial run to see how this blog functions, but I have an exciting new training opportunity to share with you all.
Yesterday, the Lifeline Portal dropped a new self-paced training: Offering Referrals in Crisis Conversations. This training details how and when to talk about referrals, how to select an appropriate referral, how to conduct a warm transfer, etc. I took the training myself and believe many of these topics within the training will be extremely helpful to you all.
There are some elements to this portal training that differ from our LICC procedures that I'd like to point out.
The training recommends you always utilize your referral database but also goes into how to find credible resources on the internet should you not be able to find something in the database. As you all know, we do not want any counselor to refer a client anywhere that is not on our referral database. You can certainly encourage the client to search on their own and tell them what you've learned from this training about which sites tend to be more credible.
This training goes into great detail about warm transfers. As you know, we put out guidance that the only circumstance to conduct warm transfers was to other 988 call centers if the client was geo-routed to us instead. The training makes some interesting points about unique scenarios in which a warm transfer may be appropriate outside of this example. I think these scenarios have great value and are worth consideration; if you encounter these scenarios on the line, use your gut to tell you how to handle the situation, and document in your call summary if you did do a warm transfer and why.
This being said, this training will count toward additional training hours needed by October 31, 2026. This will count toward 1 hour of additional training hours once the Certificate of Completion is emailed to myself at tparisi@longislandcrisiscenter.org. We are transferring the responsibility of tracking these hours from Lydia to myself, so you only need to send to me from now on.
